April Fool’s Day

April Fool’s Day is usually the day that students pull little pranks on their teachers. I expected the usual comments such as, “There is a spider on your back!”

A teacher I work with really pulled a prank on her class. She did it like this:

Teacher:  I am so proud of all of you and all of the hard work you have been doing every day. In fact, I made some brownies for you!

(Having brownies is a special treat, since we are not really allowed to bring in sweet snacks or candy. We have healthy snacks now.)

Students: Yes! We have been really good. Brownies! Awesome!

Teacher: I felt you really deserved some special brown E’s.

So, the teacher started passing out brown, construction paper, capital E’s –  one to each child.

Students: Quiet shock and disbelief.

Teacher: What’s the matter? I told you I made you some brown E’s!

Students: We thought you made brownies!!??

Teacher: April Fools!

And, the children were sooo sad. They were very lucky –  because she actually did make brownies for them and proceeded to pass out the real ones.

I will have to remember this one for next year!
